An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) documents the possible impacts a major project such as The New I-64 will have on various aspects of both the natural and built environments. Environmental documentation is required for all projects built with federal money.

Draft- and final-version EIS documents for The New I-64 project were prepared by The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

  • The initial Draft EIS (DEIS) was published in January 2003.
  • All substantive issues raised during the public comment period that followed were addressed in the Final EIS, published April 15, 2005.

The Environmental Impact Statement process concluded with the issuance of a signed Record of Decision (ROD) by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on July 18, 2005.

The final project scope approved by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission differed slightly from the original Selected Alternative that was evaluated in the original EIS document. This re-evaluation (summarized in Exhibit A) addresses changes to the Selected Alternative presented in the FEIS. The remaining portions of the Selected Alternative from the FEIS not included in this re-evaluation remain unchanged.
